Auto Touring in Cades Cove
Your Great Smoky Mountain National Park visit will not be complete until you have taken the Cades Cove driving tour. Cades Cove is a secluded valley bounded by mountains. An 11-mile, one-way loop road through the cove, presents motorists sightseeing at a leisure pace. Travel time takes at least two to four hours plus time for walking some of the area trails. The loop road is closed from sunset to sunrise.

Cove Loop is open to
auto,
bicycle and foot traffic every day of
the year from sunup to sundown with a few exceptions. The
Great Smoky Mountain National Park has
designated that May through September on Wednesdays and Saturdays, the
loop is reserved for
hikers and bicyclist from sunup to
10am. Auto traffic on those days is permitted on Cades Cove loop road
after 10am. Expect to spend two or more hours for the Cades Cove auto
tour. Bicycles can be rented for a small fee at the Visitors Center at
the beginning of Cades Cove.

The 11 mile loop road is moderately difficult and hazardous. Numerous accidents occur each tear it is important to control your speed keep to the right and be alert.
